What are GTC up to now?...

"SEPTEMBER" Success

If you enjoyed our last production of the season, "September In The Rain" by John Godber, then you might be glad to hear it followed up its run at the Old Nick with a performance at the Wakefield Theatre Festival - AND has been rewarded with some prizes to boot!

The company - director Kerry Greenwood, actors Millie Creasey and Jonty Fotheringham, stage manager Paddy Johnson and technician Jeanne Bain - spent a week re-rehearsing the show for the procenium arch style space at Wakefield's Theatre Royal and Opera House and performed the show for one last time to a very appreciative audience on Saturday 2nd June.

Festival organiser Paul Haley had sent out a special plea to previous contributors as one of his companies had to drop out of the Festival at very short notice - so GTC stepped in to the breach, having appeared once before with their production of "Misery",  performing on the final night of the week-long run.  The audience broke into spontaneous applause regularly throughout the presentation and gave the show a very warm reception at the end.  Professional Adjudicator Jan Palmer Sayer was extremely complimentary about the performance, praising the "exemplary staging and accomplished production" and the "great partnership" of the two "versatile" and "fine" actors.

But the icing on the cake came during the subsequent awards ceremony, when GTC's production took three major awards, Best Director, the Comedy Award for the partnership of Millie and Jonty, and Runner Up for Best Play, as well as Best Actor and Actress nominations.  The company were genuinely surprised and delighted by their success, the crowning glory for a production which has been universally well received.

The company would like to offer special thanks to Barry and Elizabeth Evans and Stef Creasey who accompanied the company and worked hard throughout the day to assist in helping it reach an award-winning standard, to the GTC audience members who made the trip to Wakefield to support the show again and to the Technicians at the theatre who were so helpful and supportive during the whole process.

Looks like we're going to have to return next year to take the trophies back.  So, what show should we take the next time...?

Extraordinary General Meeting

The GTC Committee held an EGM recently to discuss the progress with the feasibility study and plans for the development of the Old Nick premises, and were delighted with the support shown by the large number of Patrons and friends who turned out to discuss proposals.  Much of the discussion centred on the possibility of GTC becoming a Community Interest Company which, it was hoped, might enable us to pursue larger funding to achieve the plans already agreed.  A number of concerns were raised by members and ultimately it was decided that the Committee would investigate all possible alternatives and then put forward to the members a recommendation which could be discussed at a further meeting.
