Take a look around this unique building...
The Old Nick Theatre, home of Gainsborough Theatre Company, started its life as Gainsborough's police station and courthouse (hence the name) and the original features are still very much in evidence. The courtroom is now the theatre itself, an intimate theatre-in-the-round space capable of seating 55, though more often used in arena style with the audience on three sides of the action. Downstairs, the new box office replaces the original reception rooms and, still hidden from view (unless you take part in one of Gainsborough's Ghost Walks), are the original cells, some complete and still decorated with acerbic graffitti from previous residents!
With a feasibility study in place and funding being sought, it is likely the Old Nick premises may look very different in a few years time. Until then, here are some photos from the building as it appears at present.
